Build an advantage at digitising language

Deliberate efforts within Aotearoa's digital industry to develop expertise and unique skills at digitising languages, to enhance the potential for te reo Māori to be a strongly used digital language.

Why the contribution is important

This could have both economic and cultural benefits for Māori and the wider Aotearoa population. Through enabling this industry focus, we could develop commercial advantages at preserving and applying languages digitally, and this could be a way of strengthening partnerships with our Pacific neighbours as well.

Ka tino tautoko ahau i tēnei whakaaro. Matua rā ko te reo Māori puta i ngā pūnaha, hōputu, wāhi matihiko katoa ki reira whakamana ai i tō tātou nei reo rangatira. Me ōhiti tātou ki ngā aupēhitanga o ngā mea e waihangatia ana i tēnei wā, ko ngā reo taketake o te ao kei raro, ā, ka tāmitia e ngā reo 'matua' me kī, pērā i te Ingarihi, te Wīwī, me te Paniora. Torutoru noa iho ngā āheinga mō ngā reo taketake, ā, ko te reo Māori tērā. Koinā taku āwangawanga nui.

[English translation of the te reo comment above.] I strongly support this idea. Indeed te reo Māori applies across all systems, formats, and all digital spaces, the recognition of our esteemed language. We need to be cautious of the oppression of the things being created currently, the indigenous languages of the world are in trouble, and they are being suppressed by the 'major' languages as one says, such as English, French and Spanish. There are few opportunities for the indigenous languges, and that includes te reo Māori. This is my main concern.
